Review: Super 8

J.J. Abrams’ new film, Super 8, is a story about kids. In suburbia. Who encounter an extra terrestrial (semi plot spoiler). Not to our surprise then that Spielberg is producing. And this is the main issue with Super 8. For all of its beautiful nostalgia, pathos and warmth, there is too much of the master here and not enough of the apprentice. I’m all for Spielberg’s powerful legacy being continued, but the film fails in bearing any kind of Abrams-related stamp on it. Having said this, it is still an immensely enjoyable experience, emotionally satisfying, and the child acting is tremendous.

3.5/5
